About Bowl and Oat
Bowl and Oat came about as a way of celebrating two of my favorite things - pottery and granola. As a family, we start just about every day with a handmade bowl full of my granola. The ritual is artistic, wholesome, and flavorful. I started throwing pottery and making my own granola in the fall of 2016, and I’ve been doing it for myself, my friends, and family ever since.
As a baker, the original recipe I started with came from my now husband, who got it from a Norwegian friend in Australia (follow that line?). The recipe has evolved significantly as I’ve developed variations and adjusted the size of my batches and style of baking, but the backbone remains. Each granola is made with oats, nuts, a natural sugar (such as maple syrup or honey), oil, and spices. The ingredients are clean and simple, which is what makes it so tasty and wholesome.
As a ceramics artist, my pieces focus on artistic forms with household utility. I initially learned to throw pottery under Karen Burt, a New Orleans-based artist at London Clayworks. I’ve since trained under Maite Oca with Gumbo Limbo Pottery in Miami, and Kathy Erteman with Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. I currently work out of a small home studio in Lebanon, NH, and fire my pieces at AVA Gallery. My wheel-thrown pieces— bowls, mugs, vases, planters, and the occasional large plate—often feature rich surface textures and intricate sgraffito etchings, blending functionality with art.
Bowl and Oat is a way for me to share my bakes and wares with you. Each is made by hand, with love. - Stevie
